SUPABON Vicryl Reverse Cut Suture
The SUPABON Vicryl Suture is a sterile, synthetic, absorbable surgical thread made from poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). The SUPABON thread is attached to stainless steel needles available in various types and sizes.
Vicryl sutures cause a mild initial inflammatory tissue reaction and promote the growth of fibrous connective tissue. The gradual loss of tensile strength and final absorption of the suture occur through hydrolysis, during which the thread’s strength diminishes progressively until it is completely absorbed. All initial tensile strength is lost within 4 to 5 weeks after placement, and complete absorption typically occurs within 56 to 70 days.
Since the SUPABON Vicryl suture is absorbable, it should not be used in cases where long-term tissue approximation under tension is required.
